The Antonio Montemayor Anievas awards, now called the AMAFI awards, were inspired by a DLS grade school student, Antonio Montemayor Anievas, who was seen as a near-perfect example of the ideal DLS grade school boy. His involvement in practically all fields of endeavour in school, besides being an honor student with a well-rounded personality gave Br. Valentius Fidelis O’ Neill FSC, then Grade School Principal, reason to call him “De La Salle’s own Little Renaissance Man”.

The 12-year old Antonio died in an accident at Pagsanjan Falls, during a school activity on September 16, 1966, six months short of his Grade 7 graduation.
